Stimulating vs. Soothing Toys
Creating a Healthy Early Learning Experience Through Play
By Kathy Pyrce
Research tells us many parents are glad the notions of infant flash cards and classical music "training" from birth are considered pass笠However, upon further discussion, they will admit that they want to make sure they provide as much stimulation at as early an age as possible to make sure they don't "miss something" as they help their infants grow and develop. Hence the popularity, power and importance of quality playthings in the "stimulating" category.
As you embark on this most exciting parenting stage – or as you prepare to purchase a gift for a friend or loved one who is in the "parent phase" – be sure to stock the toy chest with items from both the "stimulating" and the "soothing" categories. Play is how babies first explore and begin to learn about the world around them. Play is vital to healthy development, and by making sure that the special infants in your life have the right tools to guide them along their early discovery journeys, you can help ensure their play environment is as healthy and beneficial as their loving home and family environment is!
