Fun Adventures for Toddlers That Are Easy on Your Wallet

  • Hospital Nursery – If your toddler loves babies, stop by your local hospital and check out the newborns. Many hospitals also have nice grounds for walking and fountains outside or in the lobby.
  • Office Building With Glass Elevators – Nothing beats the thrill of watching the lobby get smaller and smaller as you ride the elevator to the top. You might feel a little silly when the building tenants join you, but more than likely, they'll enjoy getting a fresh view of the simple excitement of an elevator ride.
  • Construction Site – Find a site with lots of trucks and activity. Pull out a folding chair, find a spot in the shade and enjoy. Read books or watch a video about construction before your outing.
  • Bus Station – When "Wheels on the Bus" has become your child's anthem, it's time for a trip to the bus station. There's nothing like seeing the real thing.
  • Cultural Food Markets – Morley recommends cultural food markets as great places to learn about other cultures and find new flavors to add to your child's diet. "Your child can learn from the languages and music they hear, the aromas they smell, the people they see and the samples they taste," she says.
  • Library – Don't forget to find out when your local library has story time. Many bookstores also offer free programs for toddlers. "It's great for kids to get comfortable with books and see other people reading books," says Rittmayer.
