Tackling Football with Your Toddler
By I.J. Schecter
If your little athlete loves the backyard games with you and wants to do even more, seek programs in your area that will allow him to participate in a more organized way. Remember that the goal isn't to teach competition; it's to teach participation. "Introducing kids to sports non-competitively enables them to gain the confidence and self-esteem that will encourage physical activity throughout their lifetime," says Carmella Gregor, president of Sportball Canada, a children's program focusing on the development of movement techniques in the context of specific sports.
"Sports provides the opportunity not only for great bonding, but also a fun way to teach children to think strategically," adds Bleiwas.
So enjoy football season, dads – in a brand new way!
