How to Make Everybody Happy
By Kelly Burgess
"I finally gave up on the idea that we were ever going to be able to sit in a poolside setting without my being sweaty and stressed out the whole time," Francis says. "I started leaving the little boys in the on-site nursery or signing them up for their own activities during lessons, or we'd sit in the windowed area outside the pool to watch, rather than go inside."
Stanton says the first thing any mom has to do is to realize that often you just won't be able to focus your undivided attention on the performing child, and that child may notice and comment on that. Don't feel bad; instead, focus on what you do see.
"I tell [my son] I'm doing the best I can, and that I'm very good at paying attention to many things at once," Stanton says. "That said, I also try to play up what I did see to cover up for what I didn't."
