| Mavis G., a member of the iParenting community, used a nanny agency to find her daycare provider. "We looked through the phone book and found several agencies to contact," she says. "We quickly found out, though, that some agencies are more credible than others." Mavis notes that some agencies do not perform background checks, and the ones that do checks require much higher fees than the ones that don't. "I paid the extra couple hundred dollars to get a sense of security in knowing that at least they hadn't been arrested before," she says. The agency Mavis ended up using sent over several candidates based on her description of the ideal nanny for her kids. "Some candidates were good and others were a complete joke," she says. "Some didn't speak English at all, while others refused to do housework. It took time to find the right person for our family." Mavis ended up with a nanny who stayed with the family for a few weeks, then left without notice. The nanny agency, who had given a written guarantee, replaced the nanny at no further charge. "I'm just hoping this ones sticks around a while!" she says. |
