Fun with Crayons

Crafts and Activities for All Those Colors

Melted Art

You'll need: Tiny pieces of crayon
Wax paper
Iron

Grab all of those tiny little crayons and two pieces of wax paper. Sprinkle the tiny pieces of crayons on one piece of wax paper in a fun pattern or shape. Place the second piece of paper on top of the pieces. Carefully iron on top of the wax paper until the pieces are melted. Kids love to watch this process as it happens. Iron it a little, then take a peek and then iron some more. Have your kids look for shapes and see what colors mix together.

When done, allow the artwork to cool completely. Your kids could also cut it into a fun shape. Another idea is to cut a "window" out of construction paper and glue it to the back, making it look like stained glass.

Artsy Fabric Keepsake

You'll need:
New crayons
Fabric, pillowcase, tablecloth or T-shirt
Iron

Did you know that you can make coloring on a fabric piece permanent? Take a piece of fabric (cotton works best), or use a pillowcase, tablecloth, T-shirt, etc., and let your child color on it with crayons. When he's done, place under an old towel and iron to set the design.

This is a great activity for a birthday party. Give each child a box of crayons and a pillowcase or T-shirt. Let them decorate, and then while they're busy doing other party activities, iron and allow to cool so it's ready for them to take home.

Today my kids and I did the melted art project, and we had so much fun. It came out great and they are already asking me to do it again. Thanks for the great idea!
