Fun with Crayons
Crafts and Activities for All Those Colors
By Kymberly Pratt
Do you have one of these problems?
Problem One: Your craft closet or box is full of half-used and tiny pieces of crayons that are too small to color with.
Problem Two: You have an addiction to school supplies that causes your craft closet to be full of boxes of crayons because they are only 10 cents at back-to-school time.
If you suffer from one of the above problems, never fear! Here are some fun ideas to use up all those colorful pieces of wax – and even new ones! Toddlers and preschoolers will love watching one of their favorite play things be used to make interesting artwork and other fun objects!
Note: Adult supervision is required for all projects.
You'll need:
Pieces of crayons
Small mason jar or canning jar
Aluminum foil
Grab all of those tiny little crayons and a glass jar. Have your little one place them in a fun pattern on a piece of aluminum foil. Place the foil on a cookie sheet. Now put your foil in an oven at approximately 325 to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Watch the crayons closely because they will melt quicker than you think and could burn.
When completely melted, remove the foil from the cookie sheet and place it on a cold cookie sheet. Roll the glass jar in the melted crayons. It will stick to the jar. Allow it to cool completely. Let your child use the "vase" for washable markers, to hold new crayons or as a flower vase.

Today my kids and I did the melted art project, and we had so much fun. It came out great and they are already asking me to do it again. Thanks for the great idea!
