Fun in the Sun
Crafts That Capture
the Essence of Summer By Kymberly Pratt
- Play sand
- Dry tempera paint
- Gallon-size baggies
- Cardboard
- White glue
the Essence of Summer
Here's what you do:
To make the colored sand, pour 1 cup of sand, 2 teaspoons of dry tempera paint and 1 teaspoon of water into the plastic zipper bag. Close it completely and knead the baggie until the sand is all completely mixed. Allow it to dry for several hours before using.
Take some cardboard and cut it into shapes, or cut it into large pieces for your child to draw on. Spread some glue with your finger or a paintbrush and sprinkle the sand on the glue. It is a lot of fun with several different colors of sand!
You'll need:
- Clear mason jar
- Sand
- Shells or other fun items from your vacation
- Hot glue
- Water
Here's what you do:
Open and clean the mason jar. You want to make sure it is nice and clean on the inside so you can see your treasures!
Put some sand in the bottom. The amount is up to you, but about 3/4 of a cup usually works. Carefully place the shells on top. You could use fun rocks you found or maybe other treasures. After all your items are in the jar, carefully pour some water in the jar to the top. Do not overfill the jar.
Carefully place a small bead of hot glue on the rim of the jar before you close it to ensure your little one cannot open it.
