Chalk It up to Fun
Creative Activities for Toddlers Using Chalk
By Kymberly Pratt
After the bricks are colored, you can give them a bucket of water and a sponge and they can wash off the color from the brick. It is another motion to encourage gross motor skills of a different kind. Even smaller kids like to play with the water. Remember, never leave children unattended, especially with water nearby.
Chalk Art: If you cannot go outside or it is a rainy day, keep some black construction paper on hand with chalk. Let them color on black paper with chalk. It shows up beautifully and if you spray the paper with a small amount of hairspray, the chalk will not fall off and you can post their masterpiece on the refrigerator.
Chalkboard Walls: This is a little more permanent but you will not regret it. You can purchase chalkboard paint at your local hardware store. You can paint the bottom portion of a wall or a door or just a square with the black chalkboard paint. After it is good and dry, your little one can write on the wall with chalk. This would require some supervision in that you would not want them writing on the other walls.
However you decide to enjoy chalk, be sure to take lots of photos. The memories created will be priceless – and just chalk it up to good old-fashioned family fun!
