Welcome the School Year With These Fun Projects
By Kymberly Pratt
These message boards make great teacher gifts or friend gifts. You could personalize the board with paint pens or use the spirited colors of rubber bands to coordinate with your school.
You'll need:
Corrugated corkboard (approximately 18x18 inches)
Large multicolored broad rubber bands (about a dozen)
10-inch piece of ribbon
Two thumbtacks
1. Randomly stretch the rubber bands around the board to form a sporadic crisscross pattern of colors and lines.
2. Attach the ribbon to the back on the top two corners with the thumbtacks in order to hang the board.
Pencil Creations
These pencil creations make great teacher gifts. You could personalize them for each teacher depending on what the subject is or fill it with flowers for the appropriate season.
You'll need:
Glass vase of any diameter (approximately 8 to 10 inches high)
Pencils (new or newly sharpened)
Hot glue
10 inches of ribbon
1. Help your child hot glue the pencils around the outside of the vase evenly. The pencils can be newly sharpened or unsharpened.
2. After all pencils are glued on, tie a bow with the ribbon around the top of the vase and fill it with flowers or pencils, pens and rulers.
Note: You could use other items rather than pencils, such as markers, pens, rulers, rubber bands, etc.
