Welcome the School Year With These Fun Projects
By Kymberly Pratt
These art holders make great teacher gifts or friend gifts. Decorate them according to the school's colors and mascots.
You'll need:
Yardstick
Acrylic Paints
Clothespins
Hot glue
White tacky glue
Embellishments (sequins, wiggle eyes, glitter, pom poms, etc.)
Paint pens
Lightweight picture hangers
1. Paint one side of the yardstick a color of your choice.
2. Paint four clothespins a coordinating color from the yardstick.
3. Help your child hot glue the clothespins in place. Place one clothespin approximately 2 inches from one end. Place the second approximately 8 inches or so on the other side. You will then place the last two clothespins accordingly on the opposite side. You can hang your art holder horizontally or vertically, depending on your space.
4. Secure the hangers to the back. You can buy lightweight picture hangers that don't even require nails. They are simply pushed into the back of your yardstick like thumbtacks. You could also use ribbon to hang your art holder for another creative look.
5. Now it's time to decorate! White tacky glue works best, but simple Elmer's glue will get the job done as well. If your little one is too small to use the glue, simply place several dots of glue down and let her place embellishments onto the glue dots. The sky is the limit as far as embellishments go. Use sequins, wiggle eyes, foam pieces, flat jewels, old buttons and pompoms.
6. Use a paint pen or marker to write your child's name on the art holder.
7. Mount the art holder on the wall and let your little ones decorate some pictures to hang from their personalized art hanger!
