The Terrific Twos
10 Reasons to Cherish Toddlerhood
By Becky Lane
Although they have been labeled as notoriously uncooperative, toddlers can actually be very helpful when they want to be. Your little one can be a super sock sorter when folding laundry, an excellent egg cracker when baking cakes and a dynamic duster around the living room.
They also can make good big brothers and sisters. "He is very good about playing with [his baby brother]," Doverspike says of her toddler. "He tries to show him things and thinks that he taught him how to crawl. That is great."
What's not to like about a person who's always raring to go about even the most mundane events? We're going to the park? Yippee! Mac and cheese for dinner? Hallelujah! I found an acorn with its little hat still on in the yard? Call the papers! And you can always "sell" something to a toddler to make it sound like the best idea in the world. If only it were that easy all the time.
There's a reason why so many hours of video footage are devoted to toddlers. They are just so darn funny! Doverspike's son loves to reenact movies he watches. He is great at getting into a character and just going with it, she says.
This morning I walked in to find my toddler dancing around her room with panties on her head.
Watching those first steps your child takes is one of the best things about toddlerhood, Green says. She also ranks "hearing the words 'mommy,' 'daddy' and 'I wub you' for the first time" in her personal toddler top 10 list.
And, lest we forget the all-important big kid "first" of toddlerhood: "No more diapers!" Doverspike says. Don't worry. If your toddler hasn't gotten there yet, she will.
