"While at home, keep room temperatures around 68 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit," Dr. Krata says. "At night, you can keep temperatures as low as 65. If possible, keep the room humidified. For those homes with steam/hot water radiators, consider placing a bowl of water near the radiator to help humidify the room. And of course, take care to place the bowl out of reach of children."

Instead, she recommends something called a sleep sac. "This sac has no sleeves in it," she says. "Dress your baby in a onesie and a long sleeve romper and put the sleep sac on him or her. You can also put them in the onesie, gown and socks and then place him or her in the sleep sac. These sacs are designed to decrease the incidence of SIDS. But if you do use a blanket, make sure it is tucked in and Baby cannot pull it over their head."
