5 Crafts from Nature By Kymberly Pratt
Next, help your child glue their treasures on the Styrofoam wreath. Allow to dry completely, then tie a piece of twine through the middle for a hanger.
Tip: To personalize, help your child write his name or the family's last name on a piece of construction paper or index card and attach to the wreath.
You'll need:
Large wide wooden craft sticks
Brown paint
Paintbrushes
White tacky glue
Leaf and nature stickers
Thanksgiving stickers
Large circle magnets
Here's what you do:
Lay the craft sticks on some newspaper and let your child paint them with the brown paint on one side. Allow them to dry completely.
Help your child glue the dried sticks in the shape of a square. Then, let him decorate with the Thanksgiving and fall stickers. Allow the frame to dry completely.
Once the frames are completely decorated, attach the large circle magnet to the back and a picture of your choice. The large magnets may need to be hot glued in order to stick properly. Smaller magnets can be used but you might need several.
You'll need:
Paper lunch sacks
11x17-inch piece of construction paper
Old crayons
Laminating store
Here's what you do:
Give your child a paper sack and go on a nature walk. Collect fall leaves in different shapes and colors. Lay them out on a piece of newspaper when you get home.
Place a sheet of construction paper over the leaves. Remove the paper from a crayon and show your child how to gently rub the crayon (using the sides, not the tip) over the paper to make impressions of the leaves.
When they're done making the rubbings, you can help them write the name of each person coming to dinner on the placemat, if desired.
Tip: To make these placemats last longer, take them to an office or teacher supply store and have them laminated.
