Two Much Fun!
Games and Play for 1-Year-Old Twins
By Susan Kohl
Balls are a great source of play. One-year-olds love to roll them around and chase them. They love to create their own bowling environment where they can knock things down with the balls. Smaller hard plastic balls (of an appropriate size) can also be bounced around and chased.
Blocks start becoming popular at age 1. The most fun of all is having Mom or Dad stack them so the twins can knock them down. While this may become a tedious task for the parent, watching the sheer joy on your children's faces when they knock things down is well worth the effort.
Refrigerator magnets are great to keep the twins busy while you're in the kitchen. One-year-olds enjoy taking them down but may not have mastered putting them back up yet. Some electronic, fridge-mounted devices sing the name and sound of one letter magnet at a time and are larger than typical alphabet magnets and easier for 1-year-olds to handle.
Another fun activity for twins is calling one another and "talking" on the phone. Toy telephones provide an opportunity for two-way conversation and a common ground for enhancing communication skills.
There are other favorite classic games and activities that belong not only to twins but to all 1-year-olds. "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Peek-a-Boo" are classic crowd pleasers.
Keeping 1-year-old twins involved in stimulating playtime can be fun for the whole family. It also can be rewarding as you watch them grow and learn and master skills that will be essential for years to come.
