Turning TV Time Into Family Time

  • Use your kids' TV time well. "At our house this means I often jump on the treadmill and get some exercise while the kids are watching 30 minutes of their TV that day," says Christine D'Amico, mom of two. "We often use 15 to 30 minutes of their TV time to cuddle up as a family and all watch together. That is really special time to our family. We all pile into one big overstuffed chair and snuggle up together with a movie."
  • Set up family activities around TV time, like making popcorn prior to watching TV together or getting chores done and then watch TV once the picking up is done.
  • Do not make the spot in front of the television the most comfortable place in the house. If your television is in your family room, where everyone tends to congregate, arrange the room to make something other than the TV the focal point.
