Fun with Shells
Crafts to Make from Summer's Bounty By Kymberly Pratt
These craftsmake use ofyour children'ssummer seashellor rock collections. And they'refun to do, too!
You'll need:
- Sticks
- Small pebbles or rocks
- Shells
- Thread or yarn
- Paintbrush
- Varnish
What you will need to do:
Cut five to seven pieces of yarn at varying lengths (between 10 to 15 inches long). Tie each piece of yarn onto your stick, trying to keep them evenly spread apart so your mobile will be balanced. Tie each shell or pebble onto a piece of string using good, strong knots. You can even tie more than one onto each string. Keep in mind that your mobile will be balanced based on where you tie each shell. After you are happy with your mobile and its balance, you can paint a layer of varnish on each shell to makeit nice and shiny.
You'll need:
- Cardboard
- Two colors of fun foam
- Scissors
- 10 shells or pebbles
- Craft glue
What you will need to do:
Begin by cutting a square piece out of the bottom of the cardboard. You can cut it as big or small as you would like. This piece will be the base of your game board. A good size would be 8 by 8 inches. Next, cut a piece of fun foam the same size to cover the cardboard and glue it down.
Cut eight thin strips of your second color of fun foam to make the outside borders and the grid for your "Tic-Tac-Shell" board. The length of each border strip needs to be the length of your cardboard, and the grid strips need to be about 1/2 inch shorter than the border strips. A good width would be 1/4 to 1/2 inch.
